P.S.A. Telephone Scams

We receive multiple complaints daily from Cross County citizens concerning scams requesting personal information from them. Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages. The callers often make false promises, such as opportunities to buy products, invest your money, or receive free product trials. They may also offer you money through free grants and lotteries. Some scammers may call with threats of jail or lawsuits if you don’t pay them. One way to combat these scammers is to ask them for your personal information such as the address they have listed for you, account number, social security number etc. The majority of these scammers will not have the information that you request.
