Special Alert from Cross County Sheriff, J.R. Smith

01/12/2013

On Friday, January 11, 2013, at approximately 10:30 p.m. The Cross County Sheriff's Office received a call about an individual falling into the St. Francis Bay.

During the phone call, it was learned that the individual in question was Nick Swink, an off duty Cross County Sheriff's Office Auxiliary Deputy.

After learning of this, the Arkansas State Police, St. Francis County Sheriff's Office, Cross County Sheriff's Office and Wynne Police Department along with Arkansas Game and Fish, St. Francis County Search and Rescue, Newcastle Fire Department, Wynne Fire Department and Cross County Dive Team conducted a search of the waterways and banks on east and west side of the St. Francis Bay.

The Arkansas State Police helicopter was flown to Forrest City, AR to assist in search, but due to dense fog and low cloud cover at the time it was unable to assist with search.

Approximately today at 6:30 a.m., January 12, 2013, the search was suspended due to weather conditions and dense fog on the river.  Approximately today at 11:00 a.m., January 12, 2013 the search was resumed and as of today at 4:00 p.m., January 12, 2013 Nick Swink has not been found.  We will continue to search for Officer Swink until we locate him.

Any further updates will be posted as a Press Release on this Website.
