Scam Reminder

Scams come in all forms. From phone calls, text messages, and e-mails, scammers are targeting individuals with one goal in mind - to get your money. Although scammers are constantly coming up with new tricks, some of the most popular scams include the following:

Text message regarding a toll road. Example of one text: "Pay your FastTrak Lane tolls by (date). To avoid a fine and keep your license, you can pay at (link to website)." **Arkansas has no toll roads.**

After checking into a hotel room, the front desk calls your room and asks for your credit card information and address. Should you encounter this, hang up and physically go to the front desk to see if there is a problem.

They say they're from the Social Security Administration and your benefits will end unless you pay. Or they're from the IRS and you owe taxes. Or you need to give your Medicare number to get a new card. Government agencies won't call, email, or text you and ask for money or personal information.

Someone representing themselves as a law enforcement officer stating you have a fine or a warrant and asking for money. Law enforcement agencies and their employees do not call asking for money for fees or fines.

"You have won the Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes!" Per the Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes website, winners are notified by mail or in person and they do not ask for money from you to claim your prize.

Stay skeptical and think scam anytime you get an unexpected or unsolicited call. If you are unsure, hang up and call the agency or company directly - do not call the number that shows up on the caller id. Never give out your personal information, banking information or send money without verifying the claim is legitimate. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it is most likely a scam.
