Wynne, Ark - The Cross County Sheriff's Office launched an enhanced website that improves the way information is provided to area residents and includes an interactive county crime map. The enhanced website is now online at www.CrossCountySheriff.org.
Enhancements to the Cross County Sheriff's Office website include a display of the most recent news events on the website home page. Website visitors can immediately view the latest information including top news items and the most recent inmate booking.
The enhanced website now allows subscribers to sign up to receive alert notifications from the Sheriff's Office via text message as well as via e-mail.
Another new feature of the enhanced website is an interactive crime map that allows site visitors to view locations where crimes occurred within Cross County. This crime map display is provided as a public resource for general information and is not a complete history of crimes committed or reported in Cross County. The Sheriff's Office is currently inputting past crime information to display online.
"With this new crime map, website visitors can go online and view locations where crimes have occurred in the County, as well as learn details about the nature of those crimes. The crime map is a new and innovative way for the Cross County Sheriff's Office to provide information to the public. Our goal is to increase public awareness to enhance public safety," states Cross County Sheriff J.R. Smith.
The website pinpoints locations on the map where crimes have occurred. Sixteen specific types of crime may be identified with icon pinpoints: Arson; Assault; Burglary; Copper/Scrap Metal Theft; Disturbing the Peace; Drug; Fraud; Homicide; Multiple Crimes; Robbery; Sex Crime; Theft; Vandalism; Vehicle Break-in; Vehicle Theft; and Weapon crimes. Site visitors can choose to view crime locations based on the type of crime and/or by year. A link to the new crime map is located on the website home page.
The redesigned website was built in a wider format to better accommodate full-screen viewing on larger monitors.
